    Brief History

    On the 2nd November 1990, the District Court came into existence. The Court transferred into the present building in 16th February 2007.

    District Court of Maharajganj as a district legal entity was recognized by the Government of Uttar Pradesh G.O. No. 5823/Saat-A. Nyaya-217/89 Lucknow Dated 12/01/1990. By this G.O. five courts e.g. District Judge, Civil Judge (Sr. Div.), Chief Judicial Magistrate, Judicial Magistrate, and Munsif Magistrate/Civil Judge (Jr. Div.) were sanctioned for the District Court of Maharajganj. One Court of Additional District & Sessions Judge for District Court of Maharajganj was added by the Government of Uttar Pradesh Notification No. 442/Saat-Nyaya-2-217/79 Lucknow Dated 21/10/1994. Old Fast-Track Courts are converted into Additional District & Sessions Judge (Ex. Cadre) courts by the Government of Uttar Pradesh Notification No. 552/Saat-Nyaya-02-2011-40 G/2011 Dated 31/03/2011. Later, this court has been ended by the Government of Uttar Pradesh. Three Courts of Additional District & Sessions Judges were added by the Government of Uttar Pradesh Notification No. 318/ Saat-Nyaya-02-2011-40 G/2011 Dated 12/07/2011. One Court of Principal Judge (Family Court) was added by the Government of Uttar Pradesh Notification No. 896/Saat-Nyaya-2-2013-58G/2001 Lucknow Dated 27/05/2013. One Court of Additional District & Sessions Judge (Fast Track Court) was added by the Government of Uttar Pradesh Notification No. 1037/VII-Nyay-2-2014-36G/2013 Dated 01/09/2014. Another Court of Additional District & Sessions Judge (Fast Track Court) was added by the Government of Uttar Pradesh Notification No. 01/2016/1788/VII-Nyay-2-2015/ 173G TC Dated 30/09/2015. One Civil Judge (Sr. Div.)-Fast Track Court and One Civil Judge (Jr. Div.)-Fast Track Court was added by the Government of Uttar Pradesh Notification No. 197/VII-Nyay-2-2016-173G/15T.C. Dated 15.02.2016. One Court of Additional District & Sessions Judge was added by the Government of Uttar Pradesh Notification No. 10/2016/870/Saat­-Nyay­-2-­2016-­85G/2012 dated 06.07.2016. Two Courts of Additional Principal Judge (Family Court) were added by the Government of Uttar Pradesh Notification No. 18/2016/1120/ VII-Nyay-2-2016-27G/2016 T.C. Dated 20.10.2016. Three Courts of Additional Civil Judge (Jr. Div.) was added by the Government of Uttar Pradesh Notification No. 10/2016/870/Saat­-Nyay-­2-­2016­-85G/2012 dated 06.07.2016.

    There is an Outlying Court of District Court, Maharajganj in Pharenda. Outlying Court, Pharenda came into existence by the Government of Uttar Pradesh Notification No. 1366/ Saat-A. Nyaya-202(24)/76 Nyaya (Adhinastha Nyayalaya) Anubhag Lucknow Dated 01/04/1989. By this G.O. one court e.g. Munsif Magistrate/Civil Judge (Jr. Div.) was sanctioned for the District Court of Gorakhpur. After the creation of District Court Maharajganj, Outlying Court, Pharenda is added as an Outlying Court of District Court, Maharajganj. The Outlying Court, Pharenda is situated on Pharenda-Brijmanganj road in its own building.

    However, the District Court, Maharajganj was established (in 2007) for seven courts and their staff. Now, In District Court, Maharajganj, there are 17 courts functioning eg. District Judge, Principal Judge Family Court, Two Additional Principal Judge Family Court, Four Additional District & Sessions Judge, One Additional District & Sessions Judge (FTC), Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate/Civil Judge (Sr. Div.), Civil Judge (Jr. Div.), Two Additional Civil Judge (Jr. Div.), Two Additional Civil Judge (Jr. Div.) (FTC), Judicial Magistrate and Civil Judge (Jr. Div.) at Pharenda, Maharajganj.
